BURIED BOY IN ROCKING CHAIR

ALIVE AMID DEBRIS. Still sitting in a rocking chair, little Leslie Flowers, aged eight, was dug out of the mins of his father’s house after it had collapsed as the result of the subsidence of the foundations. Mr Flowers, who, with his daughter Connie, aged four, and his son Mslie, was sleeping in the house in Kelvin street, Guide Bridge, on the canal bank near Manchester, was awakened during the night by falling plaster. He immediately dashed downstairs with his son. and ran back again for his daughter. In the meantime, however, the front of the house fell in. Workmen immediately began to dig in an attempt to save Leslie, who was discovered sitting in a favourite rocking chair amid the ruins. Mr Flowers also managed to save two dogs. Mr Flowers, whose wife was away in hospital, escaped with an injured thumb, while Leslie only suffered from bruises.
