HASTINGS, April 23. Replying to a dairy factory deputation, who contended that tho regulation of three grades iu cream caused friction among dairy farmers, and asked that “finest” should bo_ merged into “ first,” the Minister said that as a result of the present regulations the quality through the dominion had improved. The only way to educate tho farfner was by strictness of grading. The department did not want the improved standard to slip back This matter would be thrashed out at the annual dairy conference, which would express the opinion of tho industry as a whole.

The Minister, accompanied by Mrs Hawken and Dr Reakes, this morning motored to Dannevirke, afterwards proceeding to Wellington.
