Mj Charles Todd left to-day by tho through express to attend ,a meeting of the New Zealand Alliance Executive at Wellington. Mr 1. S. Cantrell (National Bank) has gone on a visit to Wellington.

Dean Eitchett and his son tlio archdeacon wont oft by the 11.34 train today for the Anglican General Synod at Wellington. Air L. Deans Ritchie accompanied them. Bishop Richards is already in Wellington. The dean is the oldest member of the Synod. Mr W. R. Brugh will be a candidate for the vacancy on the Education Board caused by the resignation of Alt Sanderson.

Air J. W. Collins (secretary of the Industries and Commerce Department), and Air Julian Foster (Trade Commissioner representing the United ■ Stales) went off for Wellington this morning. At tho meeting of the Education! Board to-day reference was made by, Mr J. Mitchell to tho death of Air W. Nicholson, of Hampden, who for some years was a member of the board. Mr Mitchell said ho was the only member, of the present board who sat with Air, Nicholson. Ho had known Mr Nicholson as a friend for over fifty years, and had been associated with him in a great many public enterprises. Though Atr, ; Nicholson was enthusiastic in any j matter which concerned the well-being j of tho community, his greatest sym-i ,’inthy was with education. At tho meeting of the Otago Education Board the resignation as a member was received from Mr L. Sanderson. 'l'lie chairman (Mr J. Wallace)! said Mr Sanderson was resigning for business reasons. On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to receive Mr Sanderson’s resignation, and to thank him for his services.

At a meeting of the executive of tho Real Estate institute of Otago, held on Monday, reference was made to tho death of Mr J. A. Park, who assisted in tho founding of tho institute, was elected its first president, and continued in that position for about three years. During that period Mr I'aik did a lot of work for tho institute, and helped materially to give it a good start, ills intimate knowledge ef tho real estate business, his standing in the community, and his obliging disposition made him eminently fitted lor the position in question. On tho motion of the president (Mr B. Deans Ritchie), the following resolution was carried; — ‘‘The members of tins executive learn with deep regret of the death of Mr James A. Park, our first president, and tender to bis relatives our sincere sympathy in the great loss they have suffered.” As a result of a ballot held in Otago schools the following representatives wore elected to attend the annual conference of tho New Zealand Educational institute, to be held at Wellington in May:—Messrs G. T. Palmer, L. F. Do Perry, W. F. Abel, A. J. Woods, F. E. L. Forrester, W. Rodger, and T. Bogg. Mr J. P. Hawke will also attend the conference as the Otago branch representative on tho executive of the New Zealand Educational Institute.

On the recommendation of the Professorial Board the University Council, at its monthly meeting yesterday, decided to award Mi ss A. M'Grath tho Stuart prize. The University Council, at_ its monthly meeting yesterday, appointed Dr Marion Whyte lecturer in amestlictics.
