EUCHRE TOURNEYS KILLED BY COURT'S PRONOUNCEMENT (.Special to tots ‘Star.’] CHRISTCHURCH, April IS. The recent judgment on the legality of euchre tournaments has put a damper on this form of entertainment, and many tourneys which are still run and which formerly flourished are now failures. “ Now that prizes are no longer given the parties are a farce, and the receipts hardly pky expenses, so small are the attendances,” said Mr H. Odell at last night’s meeting of tho vSchool Committees’ Association. “Moreover, school committees who are in the habit of running onchre lour* ncys do not know where they stand regarding tho law.” He had interviewed Mr Sullivan, M.P.. who stated that the police would not interfere where euchre parties were not nm for private gain and money prizes wero not given.
