TOMAHAWK ROAD.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,-—I shall be glad if you can arrange the publication of ray grievance, in reference to the deplorable state of Tomahawk road. At the moment I have no information whether or not this street is under review for immediate repair. However, there appears to be little movement in this direction, if one is allowed to judge from the extraordinary period it has been allowed to remain in its rough and ragged state. It is truly an eyesore and a heartbreaker for not only the residents of the locality, but the thousands of our citizens who use the street at all periods of the year. The Citr Corporation has lightened the burden of those wishing to visit the cemetery on specified days by arranging transport per medium of motor buses. One wonders, however, wither the in-

auguration ot this service was tor tho purpose of a convenience to travellers or for the covering up of the “ Rip Van Winkle ” street improvement methods of our city, while those who prefer a, little exercise and tho saving of bus fare walk tho street of ‘‘ stepping .stones.” Certainly all visitors and'residents are not fortunate enough to bo in a position to negotiate Tomahawk road hv motor, with the result that many pedestrians pass along tho strip of footpath, which is gradually becoming less and less through wear and tear of traffic. Since my arrival in tho district the footpath, especially from tho terminus to Pringle’s store, is being crumpled away, mainly duo to the methods of carters allowing their drays, etc., to use tho edge of the asphalt as a brake. One wonders where this is to end, when taking into consideration that at least one loot of the width of tho path has disappeared in less than throe months. Tho remainder of the asphalt surface is really bad, and certainly not safe for traffic. How elderly people negotiate this path without accident is beyond comprehension. Personally, I have tripped on numerous occasions while coming homo in the evenings, with a result that I now walk on the open road, which provides a more even surface, and one can imagine what an ordeal it must he for elderly people and Indies with children using this .street. The position is further aggravated by the fact of the electric lamps allocated to the locality being lotally inadequate. AA’hy should such conditions exist in a suburb which promise* to ho one of the most popular in our city?—l am, etc., Som; Tors. April 16.
