LONDON PRODUCE MARKET. The Bank of New Zealand lias received the following advice from its London office, as at the close of business last week: —Butter: Slow; 166 s to 168 s cwt. Cheese: Steady; 96s to 975. Frozen meat: The demand for heavyweight wethers is good. The market for ewes is more active owing to shorter supplies from the Argentine. The market for lamb has improved, and the present demand is expected to continue; prospects are generally good. The beef market is short of supplies, and prices are nominal. Wethers, light, to 7id per lb; wethers, heavy, 4Jd to 54d per lb; ewes, 4id to 5Jd per lb; lambs—two’s, Did to 9Jd per lb; eight’s, Bid to B^cl per lb; fours, 8d to Bid; second’s, B.ld to B.ld per lb; ox hinds, 4ld to 5d per lb; ox fores, 3-Jd to 4d per lb; cow hinds, 4id to 4jd per lb; cow fores, did to did per lb. A.M.P. REPORT. The directors’ report to he presented at the seventy-ninth annual meeting ol the Australian Mutual Provident Society on the 20th inst. states:—J he| new business completed in the ordinary department, including reassurances of £315,600, comprised 27,616 policies assuring £15,397,528, and 51 annuities for a total of £3.678 4s 2d i>er annum, hi the industrial department new policies were issued assuring £4,062,280 Is. Claims by death in the ordinary department amounted to £1,854,749 8s Bd, including £675,777 19s lor bonus additions, after deduction of amounts which had been reassured. Endowment and ondowmnent assurance policies amounting to £1,495,894 Ids, including £422,335 10s for bonus additions, have, matured. Policies assuring £3.894,026 10s 4d, and annuities amounting to £5,062 10s 8d per annum, became void from other causes. The total of the accumulated funds ol the ordinary and industrial departments has been increased by £4,168,511 0s 3d, and now amounts to £67,809,683 9s, which includes a sum of £12.464 16s lid in the claims investment account. In addition to this there is £600,000 at credit of tho investment reserve fund, and £5,135 5s Id at credit of tho fidelity guarantee fund, ordinary department, making a total of £68,414,818 14s Id. Tho society’s investments in various loans to tlie Commonwealth of Australia, the Dominion of New Zealand, and the British Government, for war and repatriation purposes, amount to £15,053,767 8s sd. The actuary’s report_ shows a surplus of funds over liabilities in the ordinary department of £2,926,022_7s lid, out of which £2,867,022 7s lid is to be allotted for distribution among the participating policy-holders. This will provide reversionary bonuses of about £4,980,000. The surplus in the industrial department., which is to he distributed among the participating policy-holders, is £203,491. 3s 6d, providing reversionary bonuses amounting to about £291,000.

Potatoes,—-The market is being kept well supplied, and consignments during the latter part of the week have been rather heavy. Digging is now more general, and crops nrc lifting bettor than was anticipated. Shippers arc quiet, the hulk of the trade being consumed locally. To-day’s value of prime lines is to £5 10s, cx truck, sacks included.

Chaff.—The quantities coming forward have not been sufficient to cope with the local consumption, and chaff has had to he drawn from Canterbury. There is a fair quantity of chaff in the district waiting to ho cut, and this should be arriving shortly. We quote good bright oaten sheaf, £5 ]os per ton, sacks extra.
