OPENING OF ROXBURGH RAILWAY
Another epoch in tho development of Otago will ho marked on Thursday next, when the Hon, F. J. Rolleston, Minister of Justice, will officially open the Roxburgh railway. Although the first sod of the Lawrencc-Roxburgh railway was turned by the late Right Hon. R. J. Seddon ou December 1, 1905, it has taken nearly a quarter of a century to carry the line to its destination. Jt is, however, gratifying to know that the important fruitgrowing and pastoral district of Teviot is now in direct communication by rail with Dunedin. This will bo of immense value to the district and province, as the two main products —lruit and lambs—can only be properly marketed if the transport facilities arc suitable and the rail connection assures this. Tiic opening of the railway is not only of benefit to the district it serves; but also to tlie city, and the Chamber of Commerce has co-opcrated with the Roxburgh Railway League in celebrating the event. A special train will leave Dunedin on Thursday at 7 a.m., and will arrive back at 8 p.m. The Hon. F. J. Rolleston will travel by this train, and it is hoped as many of the Dunedin public as possible will make the trip, for which cheap fares will be available. For the convenience of suburban residents corporation buses will leave Normanhy and St. Clair at 6.50 a.m. for tho station. The buses will follow the tram routes, and the one from Normanhy will run via George street, Octagon, and Stuart street.
