The area affected consisted of twenty kilometres around Cirpan, with a total population of 120,000. Fortunately it was a holiday, and the majority ol the people were out ol doors when tho buildings fell. Cirpan is now uninhabitable. Every building has been damaged. Patients were miraculously rescued from the collapsed hospital. Three-quarters of tho buildings in Borisovgrad were damaged, and several villages were razed to the ground, feoldiers arc carrying out rescue work.
