SEASON OPENED AIUHXLNGTON CLUB. Morniiigtnn hold I lie initial run for the season from the Alornington School. 'l'herc were present -Air Richards (president,), Air Rawnsley and Mrs Rawnslev, Air J. R. Patton, and Air C. JL M.‘l can, sen. The season was declared open by the president, who then cave the lir.st, whiM-lc of the season to despatch the good muster ol active incinhors. The paper was taken by C. Bin and C. C’liiriisido, who laid the trail down Rone street, alone Kaikorai \ alley road, and up Fraser's (1u11,.. h rom the top of Fraser's Gully they led along Mount Grand road nearly as far as the Southern Reservoir. and then branched off across country, finishing at the toot of Barr street. From tho top of Barr street to tho seliool was a good sharp run home, in which the new memp’rs showed that they will he able to uphold the host harrier traditions. LEITH CLUB. Leith held n very successful opening run from tho Holy Innocents’ Tlaii. There were about forty members present, which shows good promise of a successful season. .Before the run was started the president (Air A. J. Dryden) spoke a few words to the members. Ho referred to the death of the patron, Air A. E. Uslicrwood, who had been connected with tho club in that capacity since.its formation. An excellent trail laid by S. Parker and S. Bragg led up tho Leith road, through tho Chinese market gardens the reservoir reserve to Eoy’s Gully. I 1 rom the reservoir across the golf links into Canninglon road the pack, which was ably controlled by L. Potter and Deputy-captain R. Watson, Billowed a rather strenuous trail for the first day’s outing. The road was then followed from Maori Hill into Queen street, and hence into Duke street and hack to the hall. All the new members finished well. NORTHERN CLUB. Northern held its official opening run from tho Dundas Street Hall. An excellent trail was laid by the hares, ’I. H. King and B. Young, leading up C'osv Dell across tho Bahnaccwcn Golf Links to the Flagstaff track, and then on to the Leith Valley road and home. Tho pack, which numbered fifteen, was under the whistles of Captain J. Dunn and Deputy-captain R. L. Knowles. It kept together until the Valley road was reached, and at that point the fast pack went ahead, with the members finishing in the following order:—R. L. Knowles 1, W. AL MTndoo 2, D. Skene The slow pack followed in a more loisurolv fashion. CARGILL ROAD METHODIST CLUB. Cargill Road Methodists,_ under t lie whistles of Captain R. Graves and Deputy-captain B. Pearce, ran from the schoolroom, Wesley street. _ The paper was in tho hands of J. Kerr and C. AP'Kcich. The pack, looking fresh in the new uniforms, ran down Afacandrew road, over to the St. Clair Golf Links, and then across country to Burnside. From there the Kaikorai Valley road was followed (o the old tunnel, and the pack ran through Cavcrsham. down Cnrstorphine road, until eventually Forhnry road was reached. A fast run home resulted in Strang finishing first, followed by Wellington Pearce, and Blackburn in that order, the rest of the pack being close up. ST. PATRICK’S CLUB, In spite of a. slight rain St. Patrick's held a very successful _ and* wellattended run from St. Patrick’s School. Under the whistle of Captain H, M'Donnoll, the trail led round Tomahawk Lagoon via Tahnna. road, and then uphill till Shicl Hill was reached. After a further run to Somerville street and round tho Bay to tho lop of Vauxhall. Portobello road was reached, and the pack turned for home. A fast pace was maintained over the last half-mile, and in a final sprint B. Baughen ran in first, closelv followed by R. Baughen. with the rest of the pack close behind and well hunched. Several of the new members showed up well and finished strongly, considering tho adverse conditions,

PACIFIC AND CAVERSHAM CLUES. The Pacific and Caversham Clubs held their opening run from St. Kilcla terminus. The musters for both clubs mere especially good, Caversham numbering'B3 and'Pacific 38. Thejnn was olfioinlly opened by Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P. The trail laid by Messrs S. Gibson (Pacific) and Hebbard (Cavorshani) was over a cour.se lending along the beach to Lawyer’s Head, oyer to Tomahawk, and round the circling hills towards Anderson’s Bay terminus and

along Victoria road homo. ’The following were the results of a very keen run home;—Messrs Mood (Cavorshani) L APLaren (Pacific) 2, Clark (Caversham) :L I). J. UNIVERSITY CLUBUniversity held its first weekly run from Allen' Hall under the whistle of Captain R. If. Cahof. Paper was dispensed with. and_ a hot pace w.ns set from the first whistle. The pack wont through the Wnodliaugh Gardens, past tlie paper mills, and along the brink of (he reservoir. The run homo from Hie Winter Gardens to the University was a. fast, one, resulting in AUKechnic just, getting homo in front of N. IL North. R. H. Cabot._ and G. Gilbert, tile other members being very close up. ANGLICAN CLUB. An exceptionally fine run was held by Anglican from Anderson’s Bay School. There wore about forty-five runners present, including many new members—an excellent attendance for tho first turn-out of the season. The paper was placed in tho hands of Thompson and Quinell, who laid a good trail. Under the leadership of Suckling and Provo the pack started up the high road to Portobello, but after covering a mile or two a track over the paddocks was followed, tho pack returning to the road again higher up. Nearing the cairn the paper led to thc_ right, over the hill, and down a steep incline to tho Tomahawk road On icaching the cemetery a good home run took place, which resulted: —J Green 1, F. ]). Rolfc 2, and G. Clark ,‘k ST. KILDA CLUB. The opening run of St. Kilda Harrier and A.A. Club was held from Forbury School gymnasium as the guests of their president (Air A. E. Rosovear) and Mr Churchill (vice-president). A pack of forty members, controlled by Captain A. Foley and Deputy-captain B. E. R. Mercer sot out. An excellent trail was laid by J. Boardman and J. Nelson to the beach, then to Tomahawk and back. _ The president was made a presentation of a gold badge on the occasion of the club’s twciilyiirst birthday. DUNEDIN CLUB. The Dunedin Club opened with a good pack. The course lay from the Gardens Kiosk, over Signal Hill, down to Jlavcnsbournc, thence to Logan Park, and back to the kiosk via Opoho road. Tho run home placed ,): Fitzgerald, Era. E. Bush, and G. Win. Edwards in that order. It was a close and exciting finish, won by about 2ft. Later the members were entertained at the Tea Kiosk, as the guests of the committee. CIVIL SERVICE CLUB. Civil Service hold Us opening run from bet St. Clair Baths. The Hares, Bond and Osborne, set out with the paper, and the pack, under control of Dcputy-cau tains Olsen and Stevens, set oil' in pursuit. From the baths the trail K’d up the hills past Cargill Castle, towards the golf links, then on towards Concord, passing on to the Green Island road, thence near Blackhead, round through Air Hamilton’s property, and homo by the Allandalo road, the first men home arriving in liio following order: —AP Lachlan, APKornan, Barnes, and Kennedy. Several of the new runners showed promise, and with correct handliyg should later make their mark in the sport. In the evening the members were entertained by the committee to a tea, and later were the guests of tho Hydro Cabaret, St. Clair. During the evening the following resolution was carried “ That the Civil Service Harrier, Amateur Athletic, and Cycling Club expresses complete confidence in its delegates to the Otago Centre, and its appreciation of their attitude regarding the recent intertcrence with the handicapping. Further, the club deprecates the action of certain clubs in endeavoring to whitewash the action on the part of certain officials of the - centre.”
