BOWLING

SEASON ENDED Saturday saw the end of the season for a number of the clubs, the various greens being officially closed preparatory to the annual top-dressing. MORNINGTON CLUB. There was no play on the Mornington green, but a largo number of players and their friends spent the afternoon pleasantly in the pavilion, indulging in friendly card games. A short speech was made by the president (the Rev. S. J. Cooper), who stated that the season had been a very favorable one, with the result that members had derived a great deal of enjoyment from their games. The Summer Time Act had been a great boon to the players, and ho expressed the hope that it would become a permanent fixture, and that its operation would be extended till the end of March. Mr Cooper also referred to the valuable assistance rendered by the ladies, who had so willingly provided refreshments throughout the season, earning the gratitude of all concerned. The final ceremony of the season will be a social, which will be held in the pavilion to-night. CALEDONIAN CLUB. The final day’s play on the Caledonian green took tho form of a contest between that club and the Dunedin Club for tho cup presented by Messrs W. T. Heuagban and E. Harraway for competition between the two clubs. Tho cup lias now been competed for three times, and the games have done a good deal to strengthen the friendly feeling between these old-established clubs. The esteem in which the donors of the cup arc held was shown by the heartiness of the cheers which were given for them at the conclusion of the play. Mr K. A. Kosevcar, who acted as spokesman for the Dunedin Chib, referred iu appreciative terms to the generosity of tho two gentlemen who had been responsible for the inauguration of this friendly competition. He congratulated tho ladies on the success of their work in the way of providing decorations, and also congratulated the Caledonian Club on the wins secured by its members during tho season, special reference being made to the success of Mr J. Scott in the New Zealand championship singles, Mr Foster’s rink in the dominion rink championship, and Mr W, D. Wyatt’s rink at the Dunedin Easter tournament. He said he was inclined to think that there was ton much competition, and that more friendly games, such as they had had that afternoon j should he indulged in. Tho game had been a. most enjoyable one. and he wished to thank the Caledonian Chib for providing such a pleasant time. Mr Rosevear also expressed the hope that the next contest would be hold earlier in the season. After hearty cheers had been given for the Caledonian Chib Mr Henaghan made a short speech. He stated that this was the forty-eighth year of the club’s existence, and added that the past season had been the best experienced for many years, thanks largely to Mr Sidey’s Summer Time Act,-which lie hoped would become a permanent one. The chib iiad had many enjoyable games, and, though it did not meet with all the success it desired, the season had been a very pleasant, one. Ho congratulated tho Taicri Club on winning the banner a.nd the Dunedm Club cm being the runners-up. The Caledonian Club must congratulate itself on winning Hie rinks and at the dominion tournament ami the rinkfi at the Easter tournament in Dunedin The speaker also extended tho club's thanks to Mrs Grcensladc, Mrs Plank, Mrs Blancy, and the mayor (Mr Taverner) for trophies presented durum the season, and to the ladies who had attended so well to the social side of the club’s activities.
