MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL
SPECIAL MEETING The Mosgiel Borough Council held a special meeting on Saturday night. There was a full attendance of councillors, the mayor presiding. Tenders were received for the cleaning of drains in Factory, Quarry, Bush, and Gladstone roads, and that of H. Young was accepted. It was decided to call lor fresh tenders for some kerbing and channelling in Gordon road, a matter that had been before the last meeting of the council. It was decided to call for tenders for the heating of the Coronation Hall. Some details were arranged in connection with the poll of the ratepayers for the Fire Board proposal, which will be held shortly. During the afternoon the council paid a visit of inspection to the septic tanks, and a close examination of the plant was made. It was decided that samples of the effluent be taken at the tanks and also at Factory road junction every fortnight, and exhibited at the monthly committee meetings. Except for one or two matters that required attention, the council generally expressed its satisfaction with the state and workings of the tanks. A letter was read from the Railway Department stating that if a crossing were to be erected at the Ontram line where it crossed Green street it would be at the council's expense.—lt was resolved to ask the Railways Department to shift the present gate to the centre of the street and the turnstile to the footpath. In the meantime, the work on the footpath, as already decided on, would be proceeded with. The Clerk reported that he had forwarded circulars to all interested bodies regarding the celebration of AnzacDay. —The finalising of arrangements was left with the mayor, the ceremony to bo on similar lines to that of last year.
