UNEXPLORED SOUNDS DISTRICT

AERIAL SURVEY CONTEMPLATED [Special to the 1 Star, j CHRISTCMI'BCIf. April 14. Next week Captain J. L. Findlay, of the Wigram Aerodrome, will leave for the south to inspect the possibilities of carrying out an aerial survey of Lake Manap'ouri. A good deal of the country in the Sounds district is quit© unexplored, and it is possible that a survey will reveal many lakes, waterfalls, and other geographical features which so far remain undiscovered. There is a great chain of lakes in Otago and Southland districts, and a survey on foot would take up a groat deal of time, while by aeroplane it would ho a comparatively easy matter to fly from one lake to another and obtain a very thorough survey. Later, Captain Findlay will visit Invercargill to inspect various sites that offer possibilities for a landing ground.
