t The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Centenary Lodge, M.U.1.U.U.F., was held iu the Eorbury School Hall, N.G. llro. Farquharson presiding over u fair number of members and visiting brethren. The delegates to the. recent animal meeting at Roxburgh submitted their report of the proceedings, and it was resolved to forward a letter to the Loyal Roxburgh Lodge expressing appreciation of the latter’s very fine hospitality to delegates. - Owing to the official visit to the Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge falling on the next lodge night, it was found impossible to be fatly represented at the visit, but several officers and members promised to attend. At the close of business a card shield match was contested with .a team of Loyal Albion members, Centenary proving victorious. The toast of the visitors was responded to by Loyal Albion. At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge there wax a large attendance of members, tho N.G., Bro. Parker, presiding.‘The meeting opened in mourning for the late P.G. Bro. Allan, and it was decided to attend a memorial sendee for the late brother on Sunday. A visit was ieceivcd from the newly installed District Executive, P.P.G.M. Bro. St abb introducing tho P.G.M. (Bro Johnstone), the P.D.G.M. (Bro, Young), and Prov Treas. (Bro. Sligo). The district officers were accorded a hearty welcome, and suitably acknowledged their greeting Two members of the New Zealand branch, P.G. Bro. Clark and P.G.M. Bro. Gahagan, were also welcomed. H was decided to pay an official visit to the Loyal Queen of Otago Lodge (Kaitangnta) on Mav 5. P.P.G.M. Bro Crawford, V.G. Bro. Jack, and P.G.s Campbell, Thorn, and Fitzgerald, who represented the, lodge at the recent district meeting, gave interesting accounts of the business transacted at that meeting. At the conclusion of ordinary business matters the guests were- entertained at supper. The Loval Caversham Lodge met iu the Oddfellows’ Hall, Forbury Comer, on Wednesday evening, when there was a very large attendance of members, over which the N.G., Bro. Emmerson presided. Three candidates were initiated with due ceremony, and four proposals for membership received. The P.G.M., Bro. Johnston, and the P.D.g!m., Brn. P. Young, were intro-, duced by P.P.G.M. Stabb, and received a warm welcome from members. The meeting adjourned early to enable Bro. T. K. Side? to entertain members and their'lady'friends. The popularity of Bro. Sidey’s evenings was evident by the very large attendance of members and friends, the ball being filled. The proceedings took the form of a “ mock court,” at which several prominent Oddfellows were arraigned on “serious charges” ranging from kidnapping to bigamy. At the conclusion of the mock court supper was handed round, and the evening terminated with a short dance. A hearty vote of thanks
was tendered to Bro. Sidcy for his most enjoyable evening. The Loyal Albion Lodge met eo Thursday evening, when there was a good muster of members and visiting brethren, presided over by the N.G., Bro. Gifford. The members of the district executive, P..G.M. Bro. Johnston, P.D.G.M. Bro- Young, and P.P.G.M. Bro. Stabb, paid an official visit to the lodge and were welcomed by the N.G., who assured the district officers of the support and co-operation id Albion Lodge during their term of office. The P.G.M., in responding, thanked members for their welcome and promises of support, and staled that, with the co-operation of all lodges, tho busy period expected during the coining year would be surmounted. The P.D.G.M. also responded, and referred to the loyalty of Albion members to the executive. One new member was initiated and a member received into th lodge by clearance from Invercargill. while three propositions for membership were received. A letter was received from the Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge congratulating Albion on its win m me recent initiation competition. Sick brethren were reported on and a maternity claim passed for payment. In responding to the toast of “'i he District Executive,” the P.G.M. Bro. Johnson referred to the success of the “1,1)00 membership” campaign, stating that nearly 250 new members had been initiated* during the lirst three months of tho year. He stressed the importance of keeping new members actively interested in the fraternal and social sides ol the order. The toast ol “Visiting Members” was responded to by brethren from Loyal Caversham, Dunedin, Prince of Wales, and Valley Ledges. At (he conclusion of busings a, card match was played with the members of the Caversham Lodge, the latter winning by a narrow margin. It was decided to entertain members of the City Fire Brigade on Wednesday po.st. and to make an official visit to the Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge on r.io L'4tn inst. ______
