NO HEED TO WARNING Samuel Patrick Cruse evidently haJ a liking for picking quarrels with his neighbors, for alter one appearance before the court as the result of his inclinations in this direction Cruse again put in an appearance at the Police Court this morning, when he was charged with using indecent language in Lome street and with behaving iu a disorderly manner in a public place. Guilty to botli charges was Cruse’s idea, Senior-sergeant Quartermaiu stating that the accused had previously been before the court for having trouble with his neighbors. Some days later be went down and picked a row with some of his neighbors and used the language complained of. He was under the influence of liquor at the time. The Magistrate: " What have you to say for yourself? You shouldn’t be back here again.” The Accused; “ I was just having a drop of drink, sir.” The Magistrate said that Cruse had had a warning, but it did not appear to have lasted any time. The accused was convicted and fined £2 with costs (£2 .’ls) on the charge ol disorderly behaviour, and on tlie other charge was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within twelve months. William James Sutherland was then charged with assaulting Cruse. “I don’t know that this man should bo convicted,” said the Senior Ser- • geant. “He received such provocation that 1 think thV ; charge should be withdrawn.” “What was the extent of the assault?” asked the Magistrate. The Senior Sergeant: “He gave him one punch.” “Evidently the proper thing to do to close his mouth,” remarked the Magistrate, who ordered that the charge bo withdrawn.
