NORTH-EAST HARBOR NOTES

[From Our Correspondent.] All that could be desired in the way of weather conditions was no doubt partially responsible for the influx of visitors which gave Macandrew Day quite a lively appearance during tho Easter holidays. The Broad Bay Boating Club’s races claimed the attendance of many,' and to the Portobello regatta on Monday all kinds of conveyances filled with sightseers crowded the road, while the several local launches that made the trip also carried a full quota. A jazz evening, organised by the committee of the Ratepayers’ Association on Saturday, attracted a large number. East’s Orchestra featured popular jazz numbers. The preparing of the refreshments was in the capable hands of the ladies of the committee, and dancing on an excellently-polished floor made the function an enjoyable one for all. With the approach of winter each week sees the reopening for the season of a different chib. To-night the Glee Club will hold its annual meeting. It is especetd that there will he a good attendance, as the important business of electing the new chairman and committee will take place. The club has vacancies for all voices, and tho se< iotafy, Mr C. Free, would bo pleased to hear from any intending members. The erection of a bowser petrol pump in front of the store marks another step in the advancement of the district. It is becoming evident that tho demands of this progressive suburb will in a short time see the starting of other businesses, thus adding to the convenience of both visitors and residents.

The'annual rs.ce for the Brown Cup for yachts is to be decided over a c-rirse from Macandrew Bay on Saturday next. A large number of entries 1 ave been received, and an interesting race should be seen , *
