WELLINGTON ACQUIRES LARGE AREA EJECTMENT NOTICES CAUSE ALARM (,I’rk United Patsa Association.] ’ WELLINGTON, February 18. It has been known for some time that the City Council has acquired under the Public Works Act a site on Tc Aro Flat for the erection of a new milk station. The area concerned includes a small portion of Tory street, one side of Charlton avenue, the greater portion of Alma lane, and a number of houses in Francis place.
Last week notices were served on some thirty-seven tenants to quit their dwellings and other premises occupied by them. This step on the part of the City Council Inis caused some alarm, and tlio tenants have decided to wait on the council and ■•nk lor co-operation with them in endeavoring to fiud housing accommodation for those who aro asked to vacate their present homos,
It wys also decided that, if necessary, the Labor Department should bo approached for assistance and guidance in the present situation, and that the Government be asked to take an active interest, in conjunction with the City Council, in endeavoring to find homes tor those likely 7 to be ejected.

Nelson Fame was slow to leave, and Hue Coronado getting a moving start, led down the back from Padlock, Nelson Tasker, Black Lila, and All Bell. Direct Morning and Lady Dunmore both broke up at this stage of the race. Hue Coronado was leading by a big margin passing the stand, followed by Padlock and Nelson Tasker, and this order was maintained along the hack the second time, where Sea Pearl moved up fast. Padlock had taken charge crossing the top, with Hue Coronado, Nelson Tasker, and Black Lila next. Sea Pearl broke just hero, and lost several lengths. Padlock turned for homo well clear of the field, and won, pulling up, by two lengths from Black Lila, who beat Sea Pearl by one and a-half lengths. All Bell was fourth, followed by Nelson Tasker and Jewel Pointer,
