The Dominion Meteorologist (Dr E. Kidson) supplied the following at noon to-day:—The indications are tor variable and moderate breezes, moderate westerly prevailing; there is a prospect of warm, fair to cloudy weather; barometer little movement; tides good, sea moderate. ARRlVED.—February 9. Calm, s.s. (10.45 a.m.), 592 tons, Manson, from Bluff. Tito Kamona is to leave Lyttelton this evening for Dunedin. She is due here to-morrow afternoon, and sails on Saturday for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. ■ ■ The Corinna leaves New Plymouth today for Wellington and Dunedin. She is expected hero during the week-end, and will load out on Monday for Nelson and New Plymouth via ports. The- Opihi is expected to leave Timaru for Dunedin this evening, and is due here to-morrow. Alter discharging her cargo she will proceed to Port Craig to load for Dunedin and Wellington. The Brec/.o is due here to-night from Lyttelton. After discharging her- cargo she will load out to-morrow for Oamani, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Piclon, and Wanganui. The Gale is scheduled to load at Dunedin on February 16 lur Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Ulimaroa, which arrived at Wellington from Sydney on Tuesday, is expected to sail at 11 a.m. to-morrow on the return voyage. The Alarama is to leave Sydney with passengers, mails, and cargo lor Wellington. She is due at the New Zealand port on Tuesday morning. Advice lias been received that ihc C. and D. liner Port Adelaide sailed from London on February 5 with general cargo for discharge at Wellington, Auckland, and New Plymouth. She is due at Wellington about March li. The W T cst Nivaria left San Pedro on February 4 with case oil, lumber, and general cargo for Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton. She is due at Auckland on February 20.

The Calm arrived at 10.15 a.m, today. After discharging cargo she will load out to-morrow for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui.

THE FERRY SERVICE. The ferry, steamer Waldne, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.10 a.m. to-day. Passengers and mails for the south connected with the first expressPERSONAL. Captain ,1. Flynn has rejoined the Waihomo as master, relieving Captain F. G. Billon. Captain G. M. Buxton is now master of the Karctn vice Captain J. G. Watson, who has taken command of the Komata, relieving Captain WTlyborn. who is on holiday leave. Mr N. B. Hazard is relieving Mr AT. Adams as chief officer of the Manuka Mr G. A. Herbert, late second officer of the Tamahine, has resigned from the Union Company’s service, to take up the position' of officer in charge at Lake Wakatipu. Captain A. Berridgc has relieved Captain D. Texiera of the Isabella do Frame. The Jailer officer is on holiday.

After holiday leave. Mr 1). White, second officer of the Hinemoa, has reported again for duty. Mr 11. Soares has signed on as engineer of the Portland vice Mr A. Campbell. Mr S. Ma xwell has signed oil tin* Waiotapu,. his place as fifth engineer being taken by Mr T. Gill. NEW MOTOR VESSEL. The Kairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Co., Ltd,, launched at Govan on December it) the motor driven refrigerator vessel Taranaki, built for the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, Ltd., for service between the United Kingdom and New Zealand, She is a twin-screw vessel of 11,100 tons .dead-weight. Her dimensions are: Length, 500 ft; breadth, 64ft: depth to upper deck, 42ft lOJin. The refrigerating machinery, by J. and K. Hall, Ltd., Dartlord, is situated on the upper and second decks, and con-, sists or two duplex electrically driven refrigerating machines. No 6 hold and ’tween decks . provide capacity Tor' carrying general cargo. Pour two or three-berth staterooms are situated in a saloon house' at the forward end ol the bridge deck. The propelling machinery consists of twin sets of fair-field-Sulzer engines, each having six cylinders hi in in diameter by 4.'iih stroke. Together they will develop 7,450 brake, horse-power at 112 revolutions a minute. The vessel is due on the New' Zealand coast about early ; May. ’ :

MANUKA LEAVES MELBOURNE. The Union Steam Ship Company reports that the Manuka left Melbourne at 10 a.m. yesterday with mails, passengers, and cargo for Blntl. Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Wellington, Sluyis due here on Tuesday, and sails on Wednesday. KIA ORA FROM LIVERPOOL. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Jincr Kia Ora is expected to leave Liverpool on February IS with general cargo lor discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton. . and Dunedin. She is expected at Auckland about March 2V. SUGAR FROM JAVA. The Arbor Shipping Company's steamer Quercus, of London, lias been chartered to load raw sugar at Java for Auckland. She is a new vessel of 4,564 tons, and was built at Port Glasgow by Litiigow’.s, Limited. Her dimensions arc: Length, SSSIT; breadth, 52ft; depth, 26.6 ft. WARSHIPS’ ITINERARIES. Alter an eight days’ visit to Whangaroa, H.M.S. Dunedin returned to Auckland on Saturday evening. The warship is scheduled to remain in port until February 16, when she is to depart on a month’s cruise to southern ports. She wiii visit New Plymouth, Port Hardy, Westport, Greymouili, Milford- Sound, Paterson’s Inlet, Timaru, Akaroa, Lyttelton, and Wellington in that order. She will return to Auckland from the cruise on April D. H.M.S. Diomede, now at Bussell, is to return to Auckland on Thursday morning to replenish her oil fuel tanks. The same day she will sail on a cruise to cast coast and southern ports. From Auckland the Diomede will proceed first to Gisborne, and afterwards she will visit Napier, Wanganui, Grcymonth, West Coast Sounds, Paterson’s Inlet, Dunedin, Akaroa, Piclon ami Sounds, and Wellington. She will return to Auckland on May 5. Both warships are scheduled to rendezvous off Groymouth on February 27 to carry out exercises. Night exercises will also be carried out at the West Coast Sounds. At Paterson’s Inlet and Akaroa, where Hie two warships will again meet, the crews from both will bo exercised at harbor drills, and they will also attend a regatta at both ports. PORT BOWEN’S MOVEMENTS. Advice bas been received by Heather, Robertou, and Co. that the C. and 1). Line’s steamer Port Bowen, which is due at Opna on February 20 from Australia for loading, will now arrive hero on February 25 to lift a portion ol the local cargo before proceeding on her original itinerary. From this port the vessel goes to Gisborne, thence Napier, Wellington, New Plymouth, and then returns lo Auckland about March 2 lor linal loading She sails finally from Auckland on March 6 for London and West of England ports via Panama. A LUXURIOUS MOTOR VESSEL. Messrs iiarland and Wold’ recently delivered at Belfast Hie King Edgar, the first of the nine cargo motor vessels to be completed for the King Lino. Constructed to the requirements of Hie Board of Trade and Lloyd’s Register’s TOO AI. class, she is 4(.)()ft in length between. perpendiculars, 5-1 ft Gin in moulded breadth. 54ft Sin in depth, and of 4,556 lons gross. The double bottom extends the whole length of the ship,, amU is arranged to carry oil fuel, lubricating oil, fresh water, and water ballast. Watertight bulkheads divide the hull into eight watertight compartments. The five cargo holds arc provided with ten derricks worked by ten three-ton electric winches; and Hie hatches are of sufficient capacity to meet the Board of Trade requirements for the carriage of grain. The vessel has a straight stem and a cruiser stern, and her masts arc telescopic. All the engine room and deck auxiliaries are electrically driven, the accommodation is electrically heated, and a very efficient system for illuminating the decks when cargo is being la-kcn in or discharged is installed.
