RAILWAY INCIDENT
A TRAMP'S HEROISM Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON. January 21. The 'Yorkshire Post’ features a ; thrilling story or heroism related in Hyde (Cheshire). A lonely tramp, walking along an embankment, heard screams, and saw a boy, Herbert Knowles, with his foot wedged in the points in a railway cutting. The tramp vainly tried to release the boy by undoing his boot. Then the Manchester train whistled, and the tramp twisted the boy’s footparallel with the earth, lay down beside him, and pressed him between the rails. The train whizzed overhead, and both were unhurt. Rescuers collected a few shillings and gave them to the tramp, who declined to give his name.
