FIRST DAY. The Dargaville Racing Club’s first day of its annual meeting was held in glorious weather before a large attendance, including the Prime Minister, the Minister of Lands, and other members of the Legislature. The course was in excellent order, and the racing was good. The totalisator handled £8,399], an increase of £1591 on last year. At the conclusion of the race Chaplin, the rider of Scot Free, was called before the stewards and asked to give an explanation, which was satisfactory. Tricklebank, the rider of Mauiahera, was asked a question regarding his riding in the race, and was suspended for six months for not trying to win.
