The Hope of Dunedin Lodge of the International Order of Good Templars held its weekly meeting on Wednesday last, Bro. S. H. Chapman, Chief Templar, piesiding. _ The programme was fancy dress social, and the lodge was open to all visitors. Songs ware, rendered by Miss I. Nyhan, Sister B. Bur* gcss, and Bro. Patterson, and a recitation by Miss Jean Douglas. The fancy, dress parade, which was a great success, gave a hard task to the three judges, who, after consideration, gave i their verdict as follows-Ladies: Miss [ Nyhan (Gold Band taxis) 1, Sister Mrs G. South (“Just Out of the Bath”) 2. Men: Bro. Clarrie South (“Old Blind Beggar) I', Bro. W. Smith (“ Spanish Brigand ”) 2. Hearty birthday greetings were extended by the Chief Templar to Sister Douglas. An announcement was made of tenlperanco and sacred night for next meet, ing. The remainder of the evening was given up to games, etc., and supper. Plum puddings have grown out of an Elizabethan dish known as plum porridge. This was a similar mixture of fruit', etc., boiled without being put in a basin or tied in a cloth, as is the plum pudding ®f ' day.
