It is impossible to have a Christian league in which the faithful are free to haVd a personal criterion, since it would le'n'd to indifference. The Pope directs thd bishops to forewarn the people against such pernicious, 1 alscnecs, and to'clarify the principles ol religious unity. A PROTESTANT VIEW, ANCLO-CATIIOLTC HOPES DASHED. LONDON; January- !L (Received January 12, at noom) Mr Henry Fowler, secretary of the Protestant " Alliance, expresses - the opinion that the Pope’s pronouncement dissolves the A nglo-Cal holies’ dream of the reunion of tho Anglican Church, with Rome. Ho .says that attempts at reunion must always result in loss to the Anglicans, because Rome’s dogma is rigid. It is tho Anglo-Catholics who alone cherish the illusion of reunion. They would go to Romo, and the Evangelicals would turn ’to the NofP conformists.
