Confectioners arc the latest victims of women’s craze for slimness, says the animal report of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce. The imports of refined sugar and candy dropped 6,000,000 cwt within the year, representing a fall of 35 per cent.
Experts say that whereas a man used to give a box of chocolates to his girl he now gives her a box of cigarettes. Doctors, however, deprecate the cut ting of sugar fiom the dietary tff women, and slate that it would 1W wiser to secure dimness by cutting oul pastry and potatoes.
