MADMAN IN A CHURCH

A colored madman created confusion in St. Mary’s Church, Cardiff; Docks. The man told a pitiful story of distress on entering the church, which is open to seamen all day, and the vicar, the Rev. R. W. Roberts prayed with him. Mr Roberts returned to the vicarage, but was recalled to the church. He stated;: “In the middle of the churchy was the colored man, picking up chairs and throwing them about as if they were marbles. He seized the lectern, which weighs about 2cwt, and threw it down as if it was a cnild’s toy. Eventually he calmed down and was removed to a mental ward.”
