THRILL OF HIS LIFE
KING ALBERT’S SLEIGH RIDE
NARROW ESCAPE FROM DISASTER.
Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright,
LONDON, January 6. (Received January 7, at 9.25 a.m.) The ‘ Daily Mail’s ’ St. Moritz correspondent states that King Albert of Belgium had the’thrill of his life when a bob sleigh in which he was descending the St. Moritz run at forty miles an hour, skidded, and bumped had]y at Shamrock Corner, hurling out Lord Northesk. The acting brakesman, Dudley Delavaignc, managed to wriggle backwards to the vacant seat, and pulled King Albert by the seat of his trousers until the balance of the sleigh was restored. At the end of the run King Albert inquired of Lord Northesk, who was injured in the back, adding: “ It was the greatest thrill—even greater than the war, even than motoring.” King Albert is the first reigning monarch to descend St. Moritz. He suffered an abrasion of the elbow.— Sydney ‘ Sun ’ Cable.
