CONCERT AT WARRINGTON

A very successful concert was held at Warrington on New Year’s Eve, the beautiful grounds of Dr North being kindly lent for the occasion. The lighting of the grounds was in the capable hands of Mr Jones, and left nothing to be desired. A varied programme Avas presented, solos being given by Misses L, De Clifford and Lucy James, Messrs S. Lawn, S. Angel 1. 0. Holden, and H. Drake, also a song by Master M'Donald. Humorous items were given by Mr MTvay, a violin solo by Miss Wilson, Hawaiian dance (in character) by Mr Marris. Mr ,1. A. Haggitt, at the piano, gave humorous songs, while a sextet of male voices, consisting of Messrs Smith (2), Burke, Main, Robinson, and Russell, rendered lavo items, a Maori song being nicely harmonised. Very capable accompanists assisted the artists in Misses Jones and Drake and Messrs L. James, J. A. Haggitt, and R. Bennell. Mr J. L. Salmond, president of the Amenities Society, thanked the performers for their valuable assistance, also Mr T. Dallas for his efforts in arranging Ihe programme. Mr HI. Read was also thanked for his work, which was highly appreciated. As a result of the concert a substantial sum will be divided between Hie society and tho Icnal committee for improvements. At the dose of the concert ‘ Anld Lang Svne ’ was song by the audience, and all then adjourned to the Esplanade to witness a gigantic fireworks display by Mr Arthur Barnett and a hovt qf assistants. As the weather conditions were perfect the display was something to be remembered, and after the lasi, rocket Avcnt up three hearty cheers Avere given for Mr and Mrs Barnett, the croAvd then making for their homes to see the old year out and the dpav year in. ___
