The Japanese steamer Tairyu Maru (late Waibora) sailed from Port. Chalmers yesterday afternoon for Newcastle, thence Japan. After loading wool and flax at Port Chalmers the Hnrorata sailed last night for North Island ports to complete loading for Hume. The Kahika, which was docked at Port Chalmers yesterday lor overhaul, was to come up to town this altcrnoou to load for Napier and Gisborne via ports. She sails in the morning. The Breeze,, which arrived last night from Timaru, is timed to sail again tonight for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington. and Wanganui. The Gale is due on Sunday, and is to sail on Monday for Timaru, Lyttelton. Wellington, Picton. and Wanganui. The Kittawa is _to sail to-night for ■Wellington and Westport. For Nelson and Now via ports, tho Corinna is timed to sail tonight. The Katoa left Wellington yesterday evening for Dunedin, where she is due to-morrow. She will sail the same day for Wellington and Auckland. the Union Company’s vessel Kaponga was to leave Melbourne yesterday lor Newcastle, thence Wellington and Auckland. Tho Lamb steamer Otnana, which loaded timber at Auckland, was to leave there to-day for Onerahi and Hokianga to fill up with timber for Sydney and Melbourne.

The O. and D. Line steamer Port Sydney was due at Auckland yesterday to continue loading lor England. She is to then go to Napier, Wellington, and Lyttelton, and is to finally leave the latter port for London on January 21. Due at Auckland-yesterday from the Pacific Coast, the 'Union Company’s steamer Wainina. niter discharge there, proceeds to Wellington, Beauty Point, Melbourne, and Sydney.

The Kaiwarra, recently recommissioned at Lyttelton, arrived at Wellington yesterday. She will go from there to Sydney and Newcastle. The Gallic is to load at New Zealand ports towards the end of January for New York, Halifax, and West of England ports. THE PORT DENISON. The local C. and D. agents advise that the Port Denison is now due at Port Chalmers on Monday from Wanganui roadstead to load wool for London. P.ort Chalmers, will be her final loading port, and she will leave there on Tuesday afternoon for London via Panama. A FURTHER DELAY. A further delay at New Plymouth owing to had weather will now bring the S.S. and A. steamer City of Winchester to Port Chalmers on Friday next to complete loading for Home. She is to sail finally from here on January IS for London via Panama. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Maori, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.40 a.m. to-day, and passengers and mails connected with the first express. WAIHEMO FROM THE EAST. An expected arrival at Auckland today from Singapore and Samarang was the Union Company’s steamer Waihcmo, with cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. NEW MOTOR SHIP. Rates of speed ranging from 13 to 17 knots are provided for in the specifications of many cargo motor ships under construction. In Sweden the first of ships illustrating this policy was recently launched at Gotaverken. Gothenburg, for the Transpacific Company, Limited, Gothenburg. She was named Mirrabooka, and is one of two sister ships under construction at Gotaverken for tho company. The vessel is specially built for trade between North Europe and Australia. The principal dimensions are as follow:—J/ength, 435 ft; breadth, 57ft; depth, to shelter deck,39ft 10in, Her propelling machinery will consist of two .six cylinder Gotaverken Diesel engines, each developing 3,200 r.h.p. at 110 r.p.m., giving the vessel a service speed of 15 knots. All the auxiliary machinery will he electrical. Two-berth cabins will be provided for twenty passengers on the promenade deck. The vessel will in every respect conform to the highest standard, and will, for instance, bo rat-proofed according to the specification of the United States Public Health Service. REMUERA REPORTED. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises receipt of a cable which states that the Remuera, en route from Auckland to Southampton and London, arrived at Panama last Tuesday afternoon. The vessel left Auckland on December 14. CARGO FROM LIVERPOOL. The Federal Line advises Taut tho Westmoreland is scheduled to leave Liverpool on January 21 for Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and New Plymouth. She is due at Auckland about February 28. CHARTERED STEAMER COMING. Under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company, the steamer Ikala, in the Eastern Canadian service, is to sail from St. John, New Brunswick, about January 14 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, New Plymouth, Sydney, and Melbourne. The vessel is due at Auckland on February 29. A NEW ITINERARY. On her next trip to New Zealand the Canadian Government Line steamer Canadian Challenger will travel on a new itinerary. The local agents advise that she is scheduled to arrive at Auckland from Halifax on February 4. From the northern port she will go to Wellington and Bluff to complete discharge of her cargo. She will commence loading at tile southern port, and from there she will come to Dunedin, completing at Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland for New York, Boston, and Halifax. To discharge Home cargo the Federal Line steamer Cumberland arrived this morning from Liverpool via Panama and northern ports, and berthed at Port Chalmers. r fhe Cumberland loft England on October 30, passing through the Panama Canal on November 15, on which date a record was established, as thirty-two steamers went through the canal.
