TRAMWAY BAND CARNIVAL
There was a largo attendance at both the afternoon and pvening sessions of the tramway band carnival on Saturday. A baby show, hold in the afternoon, was a decided success, about a dozen infants entering for competition. The first prize was won by William Holmes Young, with Winifred Sanderson and Trevor Harlo (equal) second. Dr Iverach acted as judge. A High; laud fling competition, which attracted fifteen entries for girls under ten, was also Yield, and resulted in Iris Gordon being placed first, Patricia Atkinson second, and Elvira Connor’ third. In the evening the challenge tug-of-war between Signal I. and Signal 11. was won by the latter. An interesting turn was provided by the Phillips sisters, who, with cornet spies, piano duets, and dancing kc[tb the audience amused for fully half an hour. The various stalls were well patronised, and their contents were appreciably reduced before the doors closed. • ■ The fair will be open again this evening, when there will be a final Highland fling competition fpr girls under twelve iW,
