MANCHESTER UNITY

The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge was hold in the lodge hall, Port Chalmers, The N.G., Bro. Nelson, presided over a fair muster of members. Some twenty members of the Loyal Albion Lodge paid an official visit, and were warmly welcomed. P.G.M. Bro. Stabb and P.D.G.M. Bro. Johnston, representing the D.E., were also present. Two recommendations from the Social Committee that official visits should be paid to Palmerston on December 10 and to Loyal Albion on December 22 wore approved. One candidate was initiated into the order. Koutino business having been transacted, harmony was declared. The following programme was enjoyed:—Song, Bro. Wilson; violin and piano duets, Bros. Jack and Pollock ; recitations—Bros, Fitzgerald, Stabb, Coxhead, Thorn, and Brown; piano solos, Bros. Jack and Holden. The toast of “ The Visitors ” was replied to by Loyal Albion and Loyal Valley; P.G.M. Bro. Stabb and the D.P.G.M. responded to the toast ol “The District. Executive.” The former referred to the very friendly rolar tions which had long existed between the Albion and Princo of Wales Lodges. The P.G.M. also referred to the recent visit paid by the executive to Dunback Lodge and the enthusiasm displayed by the country brethren. P.G.M. Bro. Johnson spoke briefly on executive matters. An invitation was received to attend the installation ceremony of the local Druids’ Lodge on December L 3.

The monthly mooting of tho Loyal Band of Friendship Lodge was well attended. A largo number of visiting brethren from Loyal Milton, Oamaru, Maniototo, and Makikihi Lodges were cordially welcomed. At the conclusion of ordinary business matters a social was held, at which tho visitors iverc entertained. The usual toasts -were honored, and a good musical programme was submitted. Some interesting speeches on the welfare of the order wore made by the various speakers. An enjoyable evening was closed with tho singing of ‘ Anld Lang Sync ’ and the National Anthem.

At tho fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Princess Alary Lodge N.G. Sister Webb was in the chair. There was a large attendance of members and visitors. Tho thousand members campaign was discussed, and Bisters Webb, Riddell, ami J. Robertson were appointed a committee from the lodge in connection with tho campaign. After the ordinary meeting a degree meeting was held, P.G.s Lazarus and Isaacs, assisted by P.G. Sister Riddell, acting as lecture masters. The ordinary meeting was then reopened, and members took part in a card tournament, Sister Watts presenting the prize, -which was won by Sister Baylcy. Members from Dunedin Lodge responded to tho second toast. It was decided that next raeeting take the form of harmony. Loyal Albion Lodge met on Thursday evening, a good attendance of members and visitors greeting tho N.G. The P.G.M. introduced a very old member of the Caversham Lodge, P.G. Bro. Bevan, who had been absent from Dunedin for some years, but who took a very prominent part in Manchester Unity affairs while in Dunedin. Bro. Bevan, in acknowledging a warm welcome, stated ho had very pleasant recollections of tho Albion meetings, and was pleased to find some of the older members still taking an active interest in the lodge. P.G.M. Bro. Stabb spoke on district matters, and referred to the membership campaign which would shortly be launched. Ho stated that it would stand as a monument to P.G.M. Pro. Lawry’s tireless work in tho Manchester Unity, and appealed to his own lodge to support tho campaign. r.P.G.M. Bro. Lawry, the inaugnrator of the membership campaign, delivered an interesting address on the movement. and referred to the early objections and difficulties, which had now been surmounted, and paid a tribute to the support he had always boon accorded from the Loyal Albion Lodge in all matters making for the advancement of tho order. Ho slated that ho had been accorded very hearty encouragement and assistance from tho various lodges in the Otago district, and he had no doubts ns to tbc ultimate result of the movement. Literature was being prepared by tho committee appointed at the district mooting, and would shortly be distributed to the various branches of tho order. At the conclusion of the ordinary meeting a degree meeting was held, tho Grand Master administering the first degree lecture to a. number of brethren. It was decided to participate in the official visit to Palmerston in conjunction with the Prince of AVales Lodge on December IU. and to visit officially Loyal Hand and Heart at its next meeting.
