Bray’Bros., Ltd., report as follows for week ending to-day : The chaff market is quiet, and there is quite sufficient offering to meet the Jocaf demand. The current quotation is £5 5s to £5 15s per ton (sacks extra). The shipping market is quiet. The oat market continues in a lifeless condition. Stocks aro light, but there is no demand for the lines on offer. The current, quotation is 3s sd, i.0.h., s.i., for A’S and 3s 2d lor B’s. Little interest is being-shown in forward sales for delivery next -season. A Gartens are being quoted at 3s 6d, i’.o.b., s.i., hut buyers are standing off. There is hot much interest being shown in the milling wheat market, and there arc practically no offerings. The nominal quotation for Tuscan milling wheat is (is, on trucks, sacks extra, country sidings. Some interest is being shown in Canterbury in the new season’s wheat, and a few sales have been recorded for delivery when threshed. Mixed lots of Tuscan, Hunter’s, and velvet have been placed at 6s, on trucks, country sidings. Fowl wheat has also been sold forward by merchants, and it is understood that there is now a quotation on the market for March-Aprif delivery at round about 6s per bushel, f.0.b., sacks extra. Millers’ prices aro as follow: Flour: 200’s, £l7 os; 100’s, £lB ss; 50’s, £lB 10s; 25’s, £l9. Bran: £6. Pollard: £3. Oatmeal: 20D's, £18; 25's, £l9. The lateness of the potato season continues to affect the price of old potatoes, which are scarce, and. prices have moved up Usually at this time of the year old potatoes arc not .in much demand, as the new crop is available, but old potatoes to-day aro worth £lO to £ll per ton, ex truck. Localgrown potatoe, have sold during the week from 6d to 9d per lb, and North Island-grown (what is offering) have sold from 3Jrl to sd. There are very few old potatoes to ho had, and the latest quote from Canterbury for f.a.q. . is £9 10s per ton, on trucks, and the quantity is limited. The onion market is steady. Canadians ax-e selling round about 22s per crate. A shipment of Australian-grown arrived during the week, and arrived in good condition. These are offering roilnd about 15s per cwt. Business in the fruit marts is starting to brighten up. Supplies of tomatoes are coming forward more freely, and a few lines of cherries have come to hand, together with strawberries, and these realised
high prices. Canadian-grown apples are now offering round about 22s per ease, and New Zealand-grown apples are arriving Horn cool stores, and first quality is securing satisfactory prices. A few pears are still coming to hand. Oranges and bananas are in better supply, but prices are still high. Vegetables are still short supply, but peas arc coming forward in larger quantities and prices have eased. Cabbage and cauliflower are in demand. Hams and bacon are offering freely, and there is an inquiry for first-grade honey in 601 b tins. The cheese market is well supplied, and there is an inquiry for old matured cheese. Eggs are short supply, and any lots coming forward are readily placed at Is 5d to Is 6d a dozen. Tho folloxving prices were realised during tho week ; Narcissi, 6s dozen hunches.
