PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY

The above society’s final concert this y< ar will bo held in His Majesty’s Theatre on Wednesday next, November 30. A most interesting programme lias been arranged for this occasion, and one of the features should be the appearance of Signor Giovanni Stella, an Italian Lyric tenor who has kindly consented to sing for the society. He will bo heard in ‘Lolita,’ by BuzziPocchia and ‘ Elogie,’ by Massenet. Another special feature in the programme will be Liszt’s “No. 1 ” Piano Concerto witli orchestral accompaniment. Miss Maisie Macdonald, F.T.C.L., L.A.8., one of our talented young pianists, who possesses a masterly technique, and whose sure and refined playing has ranked her as one of our many fine pianists, _ will play the solo part. The lady vocalist on this occasion will bo Miss Rita Holmes, who is well known to Dunedin audiences. She, will be heard in ' Mother yon Know* (Rusticana) avid ‘ Villanclle.’ The society will perform the overture ‘II Guarany,’ by Gomez. This spirited overture is based upon some of tho' best, themes which occur in the opera, and has always been well icceived when performed by the society. Another popular item with the society’s patrons, is the symphonic poem, ‘ Finlandia,’ by Sibelius.
