NOTES OH THE RACING [By St.. Claiii.] The Forbury Park Trotting Club is not lucky with the weather for its Spring Meetings. Last year it was wet, two years ago dull and cold, and this year fine but with one ol the strongest south-west winds that has been experienced for many years in Dunedin. Tho temperature was cold, and for the good attendance present tho conditions were very unpleasant. The gate receipts were up about £lO on last year’s takings, and the totalisator turnover (£21,016) showed an increase of £2,350. But for the unpleasantness of the day the club would nave experienced a very profitable day. Tho racing was interesting, and though favorites were not winning, Firebrand being the only first favorite to score during tho afternoon, until tho last race the dividends were just ordinary ones, and tho money was well circulated. The locally-owned Dalnahine won the President’s Handicap very convincingly and beajj a good favorite in Author Jinks, who was driven a bad race, otherwise the places might have been reversed. Lady Embrace, who ran second in the Dash Handicap last year, created the surprise of tho day’s racing by going off quickly from the start and staying in front all tho way. She was generously handicapped, and the favorite. Bob Logan, had no chance of catching her, _ The strong wind (which was right in the face of the horses as they raced along the back) was against good times being established. The most meritorious win of the day was that recorded by Ingle Bingen in the Dominion Handicap. She lost all her handicap at the start, and at tho end of a furlong was behind Young Blake, who started off the 96yds mark. Ho struck the front nearly three furlongs from home, but she outpaced him over the last two furlongs and beat him by a narrow margin. Considering the high wind he had to contend with, Mr Dunne’s starting was quite satisfactory, and the races were got off well up to time. Wilkie Bard, who was not eligible for an unhoppled trotters’ race, and Avalanche were withdrawn from _ the Roslyn Handicap, and the Americanbred mare Dolores was made a much better favorite than Len Wood, with Genevieve, Jade, Master Peter, and Sid Wilkes next in demand. Ilia Audubon and Grey wood stood on their marks, and Len Wood last several seconds. Geneyievo .began the best, but after going a furlong Sid Wilkes rushed to the front and very quickly, commanded a big lead, and at the end of three furlongs was a dozen lengths clear from Major. Domo, Len Wood, Hawkesbury Pride, and the favorite, who broke badly in the next furlong. In the next round Sid Wilkes broke, but M‘Lennan got him. down quickly, and be entered the last lap twenty lengths in front of Len Wood, with Hawkesbury Pride, Major Domo, and Dolores next, and well spread out. Sid Wilkes only jogged over the last ■ furlong to win by a dozen lengths from Len "Wood, with Jade a'similar distance away third, followed at long intervals by Dolores, Hawkesbury Pride, and Peter the First. The “favorite gave a very poor showing, and broke badly several times. Investments, £1,887. For the Progressive Handicap Sir (Author, Homclight, and Great Form won; withdrawn, and Firebrand was sent out ,a much better favorite than Sadia Himo andhUoukada Junior* iJi€ss

three’ being well hacked, and Slump, Dillon Blake, and John Appear the best fancied of the others. Celestial stood on his mark, and Sadio Huonwont off her mark at a break. Stockade Junior, Firebrand, and Dahlia Dillon off the limit began the best, and they trotted.in that order for over a mile; then Stockade Junior" and Firebrand drew right away, and the former led the .favorite into the straight, hut in the run homo the latter won by, half a length. Nelson M'Elwyn was twentyfive lengths away third, two lengths in front of Dahlia Dillon, with- Sadie Huori, who broke again badly at the end of four furlongs, next. - Investments, £2,243. -■ , ■- . ' m Aero and Coldwatcr were withdrawn from the St. Kilda Handicap, for which General Bingen was made a much better favorite than Omaha, with Jolly Chimes, Lady Embrace, and Desborough next in demand. Lady Embrace stood on her mark, and Omaha led out from Desborough, Four Bells, and Jolly Chimes. At the end of hair a mile Omaha and Desborough were well clear, and going to the far turn the favorite ran into third place. Approaching the homo turn Desborough drew away, and General Bingen ran into second place, but could not reach the leader, who won comfortably by four lengths. General Bingen beat Omaha by two lengths for second place, and Dr Dillon was a similar distance away fourth, and Robert Bell next. Investments, £2,495. * * * .. * All started in the Spring Handicap, and in an even betting race Underviewer finished up a few pounds better favorite than Nelson Ata, the pair being slightly, better backed than Avalanche and Randolph, with Swiftbine the best backed of the others. Avalanche went away the best, and almost at once took charge, Nelson Ata, Swiftbine,' and Randolph all breaking in the first half-mile. After going six furlong Avalanche was well clear from Underviewor, who put in a skip, Master Peter and Nelson Ata, who was breaking badly, next. With six furlongs to go Avalanche was still in front, with Underviewer next, and Swiftbine and Nelson Ata next. Avalanche was done with half a mile from home, where Underviewer wont to the front, and was followed into the straight by Swil’thine, the pair being out by themselves. The latter finished the better of the pair, and, Underviewor breaking on the post, Swiftbine, got the verdict by a short neck. Randolph was a dozen lengths off third, just in front of Mas-, ter Peter and Jade. Avalanche finished last. Investments, £2,234). **, * » Only Taurekareka was withdrawn from the President’s Handicap, and in a good betting race Author Jinks was sent out a little better backed than Dalnahine and Away, the bracketed pair (Bonny Logan and Trenand) and Talent being the best hacked of the others. Bell Harold led Bonny Logan, Downcast, and Trenand over the first circuit, Fight Ever breaking at the start. There was little change in the leading division over the first mile and a-quarter, and entering the last lap the field was running in close order, Downcast and Dalnahine just heading Bell Harold, with Author Jinks at the rear of the bunch. Going along the back the-latter moved up on the outside of tho field, and Downcast dropping hack three furlongs from home, Dalnahine, well clear, led Bell Harold, Bonny Logan, and the favorite to the homo turn. Author Jinks ran into third place at tho top of the straight, where Dalnahine was threo lengths clear from Bonny Logan, and ran homo an easy winner by nearly four lengths from Author Jinks, the latter just getting up in time to heat Bonny Logan by a short neck for second money, Trampfast and Talent next a long way hack. Away, who was favorite on the machine until the final balancing, ran disappointingly over tho last half mile. With a lap to go the Wyndham-owned horse was well placed, but he finished bafllv. Investments, £3.176). * * •* * Saudown, Logan Hanlon, and Zenith were withdrawn from the CWorsham Handicap for which Acre was made a slightly better favorite than Evelyn Locanda and Desert Star, with Quality and Lingfield tho best hacked of the others. Desert Star began very smartly, Kate Thorpe skipping at the start, and led Quality past tho stand. Going along the back Desert Star led Quality and Kate Thorpe, the threo being well clear of, the next hunch, which had Acre at the head. Evelyn Locanda skipped badly after going two furlongs. Desert Star continued to show the way to Quality and Kate Thorpe for tho next mile, the three being a dozen lengths;, in front of Fashion Queen, Acre dropping back to second last position, with Evelyn Loeanda. Kate Thorpe ran up to Desert Stai just before entering the last lap, but soon dropped back again, and Desert Star _ led Quality, Fashion Queen, and Lingfield into the last lap. The latter two were done with three furlongs from home, and Desert Star led Quality into the straight. In a good race to the post Quality heat Desert Star by a short neck. Pointalena was fifteen lengths away third, just in front of Lingfield, with Acre next. Both Acre and Evelyn Locanda ran very .bad races, and Fashion Queen, who went away well, looked dangerous until, she tired going to tho far turn. Investments, £3,070). » * * $ In the Dominion Handicap Lc Todd was withdrawn, and Engagement was made a much better favorite than Young Blake, with Nighborn, ’Frisco Beau, and Ingle Bingen next fancied. The latter lost a dozen lengths at the. start, from which Herbihvyn led out and was followed by Proud Ata, ’Frisco Beau, and Little Logan. Excepting that the first two opened up a big gap, there was no change in the leaders over the first mile, Engagement breaking and losing a lot of ground. Young Blake, after putting in a break at the end of six furlongs, closed up on his field, and entering the last lap Herbihvyn was just clear of Proud Ata, Young Blake, and Ingle Bingen. Going along the back Ingle Bingen moved up at tho far turn. Young Blake and Ingle Bingen headed Herbilwyn, and they led into the straight on even terms. In the run home Ingle Bingen beat Young Blake by half a'length, with LittJ.e Logan five lengths away third, followed by Herbilwyn and ’Frisco Beau. The favorite put in a good run after passing the far turn the last time, t but broke just before entering the straight. The winner went a good race after getting away, and actually stood up. Young Blake a start. Investments, £2,655. . « * * *

In the Bash Handicap Fight Ever was the only withdrawal, and Bob Logan was sent out a slightly better favorite than Terence Dillon, the pahbeing much better backed than Avenger, who was twice as well backed as Bingen Lad, the next fancied. The race was spoiled by Avenger, Menember, Event, and Terence Billon dwelling at the start. Lady Embrace, who was nearly the extronie outsider of the field, led out from. Jolly- Chimes* ■ Bingen Lad, and Bob Logan, and she held the lead all the way, winning by two lengths from Bob Logan, who ran into second place at the home turn, and just stayed on long enough to lead Haunui by half a length. Jolly Chimes and Bingen Lad were next. Investments, £3,254J.
