MR AMERY CLIMBS

ASCENT Of EGMONT [Per United Peess Association,] ■ NEW PLYMOUTH, November 25. Mr L. S. Ambry and party left the Nortli Egmout Mountain House at 4.30 this morning, and by 7.30 had reached a height of about _ 7,o(X)ft, when the guides advised turning’ back on account of the treacherous nature of the snow and the high wind. Had time permitted the summit could have been reached. Good views were obtained, and the climb was ranch enjoyed. The party returned to town, and left by the train for Wanganui. WANGANUI, November 25.

Mr Araery arrived from New Plymouth at 3'p.m., and was welcomed by tho mayor. Mr Amery was taken for a drive in the country, while Mrs Amery met the Women’s Division of the Fanners’ Union and other women’s bodies, and visited the Victoria League’s rooms. Mr Amery attended a Chamber of Commerce function on his return from the country, and Mr and Sirs Amery were welcomed at a civic reception in tho evening. To-morrow tho visitors will proceed to Flock House and Palrnerson North, thence going on to Wellington. VISIT TO DUNEDIN OFFICIAL PROGRAMME The following is the official programme in connection with the visit of Mr L. S. Amery to Dunedin:— THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1. Special train arrives at 6.7 p.m. The official party comprises:— Mr L. S. Amery, Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs, and Mrs Amery. Captain W. Brass, Parliamentary Secretary. Mr G. G. Whiskard, Dominions Office Secretary. Mr G. Huxley, secretary for affairs connected with Hie Empire Marketing Board. Mr J. Histop, New Zealand Government representative. The civic party on the railway station to meet Mr and Mrs Amery will be the mayor (Mr W. B. Taverner;, mayoress, and members of the mayor’s Civic Committee (Crs Douglas, Clark, Begg, Hayward, and Black), Sir James Allen and Lady Allen, Mr James Begg, and Mr W. J. Morrejl (vice-chancellor of the Otago University). At 8.30 p.m. a civic reception will be tendered to the visitors in the Early Settlers’ Hall (old Art Gallery). The mayor and Mr James Begg will be ,tho speakers. At 10 p.m. (following-the reception) tho mayor and council will entertain Mr anti Mrs Amery at supper at tho Savoy. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2. Mr Amery will-make the following visits;—9 a.m., Cavcrsham Primary School; 9.30 a.m., Methvcn’s engineering works; 10 a.m., Hudson and Co.’s manufactory; 11.15 a.m., Otago Boys’ High School; noon, Otago University. At 1 p.m. Mr Araery will be entertained at luncheon at tne Savoy by tho Chamber of Commerce and the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association.' Arrangements have also been made for Mrs Amery to visit the .Karitano Hospital during tbe morning. At 3.30 p.m. Mr and Mrs Amery will be taken on . a sight-seeing tour round the city by the mayor ami councillors, stopping at the Brown House, Mount Cargill, for afternoon teq, and returning to town about 5.30 p.hi.' At. 7 p.m. Mr Amery will be entertained at the Fernhill Club as tne guest of the club; Mrs Amery to be entertained by the Otago Women’s Club to dinner at the Carlton, and at 8 30 at' a reception at the Women’s Club rooms, The visitors will leave on Saturday morning for tbe north. During their slay in tho city Mr and Mrs Amery will be-tbe guests ot Sir James Allen. Ollier members' of- tiio official party will stay at the Grand Hotel.
