Sir James Allen arrived last evening from the north. Sir William Sim left this morning for Auckland and To Awamutu, where meetings of the Prisons Board are to ba held. His Honor will preside at the Supreme Court sittings at Nelson on December 6 and at Blenheim on December 13, returning to Dunedin a lew days before Christmas. Smith lelt London by the Oronsay in October, and they expect to arrive in Dunedin shortly before Christmas. Miss Lornn. K, Smith has changed her plans, and she intends now to remain in Loudon until next . March to study singing. Mr,)', Ct Lancaster, of .Wellington, is in town. He leaves for the north to-morrow. ' , „ ‘ On the motion of Mr J. tv. bcurr, the Hospital Board last night extended to Mr Gordon Bell, chief of the surgical services, its sincerest sympathy upon'the loss sustained by the death of his father, Mr William Bell. At last night’s ' meeting of the Hospital Board, Dr J. Fitzsimons was appointed resident surgical officer, and surgical tutor at the Dunedin Hospital at a salary at the rate of £SOO per annum, with board and residence, subject to approval'by the Minister.' The appointment to bo for one year, definitely, with possible reappointment for a further year, and in terms of Ahe board’s by-laws.
