TRAMWAY BAND CARNIVAL
The carnival organised by tho Dunedin Tramway Band in Burns Hall for the purpose of raising funds to allow the band to attend the band contest at Christchurch next February was continued last evening. All the stalls, which are tastefully decorated and well laden with a good assortment of articles, were well patronised, while the competitions also recorded good business. The Irish jig and hornpipe competitions were successfully carried out, Mr W. H. Mackenzie acting as adjudicator. The following are the results: — Hornpipe (girls under 16). Fourteen entries.—Cara Peterson 1, Jessie M'Donald 2, Doreen M'Donald 3, L. Haydon h.c. Irish ,jig (girls under 15). Sixteen entries.—Cara Peterson 1. Jessie M'Donald 2, Babs Saul 3, Nettie Pullar and Iris Gordon h.c.
Tho final of the tug-of-war competition between Signal 11. team and Signal I. was won by the former. Signal I. has challenged the winning team to pull off again on Saturday evening. - The bazaar will be carried on again this evening and to-morrow afternoon and evening. To-night a sword dance competition for girls under twelve years will be held.
