TAKAPUNA MEETING

[Special to tue ‘ Stak.’J AUCKLAND, November 24. The Takapmui Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting will open on Saturday, and conclude on Monday. There is a prospect of 10 races owing to divisions in the Melrose Stakes and the possibility of heats in the Takapuna Plate. The programme will open with the Melrose Stakes, in which the divisional favorites may be Flitter and Double Mint. For the Tiri High-weight Levensidc and Bold Front will not lack admirers. The top-weights (Aussie, Nancy Lee, and Paganelli) aro likely to bo the elect in the Cheltenham Handicap. There are 13 acceptors for tho Alison Cup, and present fancies aro Transformer, Valkon, and Dandndno. For the two-year-old event (Cambria Handicap), Prodice (carrying a stone more than anything else), Vohmond, and The Begum are likely to he well supported. The Plate should produce a splendid contest, in which Antrim Boy, Town Bird, Ti Tree, and King Peg may bo prominent, in the nine furlongs Ponui Handicap, Baby Bun will be in demand, despite the solid impost of 9st, especially after an imposing gallop tins morning. The others who will no doubt be kept in mind are Acushla and Nassock. Saturday’s proceedings terminate with the Borough Handicap, in which Branson, In the Shade, and New Moon have recent form to recommend them.
