Tho Legislative Council granted the request contained in a petition from the Citv Council that counsel, on its behalf, should present the ease against abolition at the bar of tho House. PLEA BEFORE THE BAR. SYDNEY', November 24. (Received November 24, at 8.20 a.m.) Mr Flannery, K.C., appeared at the Bar of tho Legislative Council and lengthily pleaded the civic authorities’ case against tho proposed abolition of tho City Council. AN EMPTY TREASURY. NO CASH FOR WAGES. SYfDNEY'; November 24. (Received November 24, at 11.10 a.m.) Tho Municipal Council is at present occupying a unique position in the history of local government in New South Wales. The council treasury is empty, and no cash is available to pay wages, and no income is expected before March next. All the maintenance men have been dismissed, and tho administrative officers have agreed to continue their duties and receive salaries when funds are available.
