SPORTS CARNIVAL

Tin's evening the Caledonian Ground will be a .scene of athletic activity and ‘music. Peterson, of the Southern Club, and Webb, of the University, will be amongst the competitors, as well as Olliver, the League player, and J. Harris. The cycling races promise to be exceedingly interesting, and the pursuit race will be the first of its kind held in Dunedin. A cycling race for those cyclists who have not raced for the last 10 years should provide au opportunity for the champions of the past to show their former ability, and H. Withoy, J. Rapson, and W. Laws arc among tho contestants. Twelve of the fastest whippets in the dominion will measure strides in hurdle and handicap events, including the winner of the National Chip, Now Zealand Cup, and Manawatu Cup. Music will ho provided by the Kaikorai Band during the evening, and the carnival will conclude with an exhibition of fireworks by the Chinese residents.
