AH ATTRACTIVE FUNSTIOIt The Burns Hull was a buzz of activity last evening, when the Tramway Band opened a carnival for the purpose of raising sufficient" funds to pay for, its expenses of the trip to the next contest, to bo held at Christchurch in February. Judging by the business done at the various stabs and novel competitions last evening, and also tho number of entries received in the dancing and other competitions, tho function should be a marked success._ Mr W. H. Mackenzie, in opening the sale, congratulated the baud on its splendid effort, and wished the members every success. The cause was a worthy one, lie said, and fully deserving of help. Ho then declared the sale officially opened. Tlic dancing competitions resulted;— Sean Triubhais (girls_ under 15). Seventeen entries.-—Nettie Pullar 1, Cara Peterson 2, Jessie M'Donald 3. Highland Fling (boys under 16). Five entries.—ll. Scott 1, R. Wright 2, T. M.‘Donald 3. A tug-of-war competition, open to Territorial teams, was held, and the first round resulted Signal 1. heat Artillery 1., Signal H. beat Artillery H., Signal 1. beat Artillery 111. This leaves Signal 1. and if. in the final, which will bo held this evening. The following officiated at the stalls. —Novelty, Mrs Reekie and Miss Cooper: dolls—Misses Hunter, Brown, and iM'Kay; plain and fancy, Mesdames Jackson and Dowic; crockery, Mesdames Scofield and Newman; produce, Mesdames Haro and Kitto; sweets, Mesdames Brown and Gould; ices and tea rooms, Mrs Adams and assistants; Christmas tree, Misses Vorrath and Adams; games—Messrs Baxter, Contable, Leckie, Stephenson, and Lyng. Tho bazaar will be continued tins evening and to-morrow night. To-night Irish jig and hornpipe competitions will bo held.
