MOSGIEL WATER SUPPLY
During one of the recent floods in the Silverstream the pipe line which carrie tho Mosgiel water supply to tin borough was damaged at tho poim where it crossed the bod of the Silvei stream. The pipes were removed foi repair and to enable piles to be driver in the bed to prevent damage on a future' occasion. The pipo line will be anchored to the piles. When the pipe was cqt away on Monday last it was found that with tho exception of the incrustation inseparable from cast iron water mains iu use for any lengthy period, there was no other defect. As had been freely stated by tho “man in tho street ” that the pipes were half full of silt, it was a pleasant surprise to the council to find tho line in such good condition. The only work now is to drive the row of piles ami couple up the pipe again. In the meantime tho borough is being supplied from its auxiliary pumping plant in Factory road, which this week has received a thorough test, and has come up to all that was anticipated of it, the delivery being:—Monday (half-day) 67,000 gallons, Tuesday 95,000, Wednesday 103,000, Thursday 117,000, and Friday 103,000, each day leaving off with a depth of 7ft in the well. The borough is fortunate in having such a valuable supplementary supply.
