MOTORING FATALITIES. At the inquest at Ruatoria into the death of Michael John Hickey, who died as the result of au accident to a service car which overturned on September 26, a verdict was returntd that death resulted from a ruptured liver and other injuries sustained in an accident to a motor car in which deceased was being driven. Arising out of the accident, an’information against John Cecil Brennan, the driver of the car. charging him with driving in a negligent manner, was dismissed. A turther charge of being intoxicated while in charge of the car was adjourned sine die for evidence for the defence. — Gisborne Association, message. A distressing fatality occurred at Palmerston North yesterday afternoon, when a motor car driven by Alexander Mitchell, of Newbury, in which were his wife and child, was run into by a rake of trucks being backed over the crossing on the Eangitikei line in connection with the new railway deviation. Mrs Mitchell was killed in an endeavor to jump clear. Her husband and child were uninjured. KILLED BY FALLING TREE. Roderick Waldron, about 50 years of age, a married man, was killed while tree-felling at Leedstown, near Rata. The deceased and a mate had almost sawn through a tree, and had inserted one wedge. Waldron was looking for another when the tree crashed, striking him. Death is beleved to have been instantaneous.—Marton message.
