ARMY AND NAVY REDUCTIONS IN STRENGTH. Pr«s Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, November 10. '(Received November 11, at 1.30 a.m.) The reorganisation proceeding in tEe French army lias resulted in a decrease of 18 per cent, on the 1926 figures. Successive reductions amount to 45 per cent, compared to the _ pre-war strength. The period of _ military service has been reduced since the war successively from three years to two, then one and a-hall, now one year. ■Meanwhile the navy’s pre-war tonnage is halved. There have been considertions in the total expenditure on the armed forces since 1922, when it was 8 per cent, below the pre-war level. It is pointed out tl\at all the decreases were made despite new commitments in Morocco, other colonies, and mandated territories.—A. and N’.Z. and ‘Sun 5 Cable.
