'MR WU'
LOU CHANEY FEATURED For ‘Mr Wu,’ a picture opening at the Empire Theatre on Friday, the master of disguise, Lon Chancy, surpassed his previous efforts. In _ this picture lie has tiio part of a Chinese mandarin, and Ms very personality seems Chinese. It is said that he accomplished this feat by studying Chinese customs, philosophy, and literature till ho actually thought from a Chinese standpoint. The part _ called for a Chinese mandarin. Aviso in the age-old Chinese lore, and at the same time Aviso in the newer Avisdom of a European college. A grim Nemesis, he was pursuing Avith hatred the English family from Avhieh ho had suffered wrong. The role of a Chinese girl, the daughter of Mr Wu, is played by lienee Adoree, Avho gives a Avonderful interpretation of the part. Ralph Fprbes gives a splendidly-balanced characterisation of the young man whose misdeed precipitates the situation of the story. Others in the cast include Gertrude 01 instead, Louise Dresser, Anna May .Wong, and Claude King.
