During recent years it has been'frequently declared that it is much less expensive to build a homo in tho Old Country than in New Zealand. In making a comparison between tho relative building costs in the two countries there are so many factors to lie taken into consiedration that it would bo interesting to liavo a discussion on. tho subject. “Stucco” was pleased to receive from a. correspondent a, letter and an Ediubnrgh newspaper cutting which should start tho ball rolling. The letter reads;—“ As comparative building costs may bo of interest to readers of your interesting page, I enclose a cutting from a recent issue of ‘The Edinburgh Evening News.’ Tho bungalows aro, as is tho usual custom in Scotland, built on leasehold or feued ground. Too price quoted is there)oic exclusive of section, the fou, or rout, of which is probably somewhere about £4 or £5 per year. Tho bungalows aro of double brick, and as tar as 1 can (rather from advertisements m tho ’ columns of the same paper, wages for tradesmen in the building line range from Is 9d to 2s per hour.
Some samples of the bungalows advertised for sale are described as follows :

Price, £9OO- - on application.” It should bo noted that these bungalows are situated in on© of the best residential quarters of Edinburgh.
