LOSS OF STOCK [Per United Press Association.] AVAIROA, September 29. The rain ceased late yesterday, and during the night tho flood waters receded, a strong southerly springing .up and quickly drying up the Hats. The damage is not so great as was feared, although boats, punts, and launches were knocked about, and two small jetties were carried away. Trees were uprooted and gardens damaged, and there were .several slips on the _ roads. The Wairoa-Gisborne main highway was blocked at 'J’uhara, but it was expected that it would be cleared today. Much loss of stock is feared. The liver bank is .strewn with huge Quantities of firewood and fencing material, etc.
