VAUDEVILLE SEASON
J. C. WILLIAMSON COMPANY Rarely in the history of vaudeville in Now Zealand lias a company scored such unbounded success as that which has marked the tour of the J. C. Williamson Celebrity Vaudeville Company, comprising ten firstlclass acts, every one a star, which will open its Dunedin season in His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday next. On its opening night in Wellington, a packed house gave this combination a wonderful reception, and since then crowded and enthusiastic audiences have been the order. Headed by Dick Henderson, England’s funniest comedian, tbo company presents a variety that makes an irresistible appeal. Henderson is known the world over as “ the man who made the Queen laugh,” and comes to New Zealand direct from Royal Command performances. Mr Henderson is a portly Yorksbiroraan with a jolly, round face, and a keen sense of humor. He bus got a line of patter that is all bis own, and also boasts a remarkably fine singing voice, which ho uses both in comedy songs and to introduce a touch of sentiment at the close of the act. Another act which has made a great hit is that of Rich and Adair, entitled, ‘The Flower Vendor.’ Tbo company also introduces Belmont’s Canary Opera, direct from Ziegfold Follies’ sensations. This is the only feathered opera, company in existence. Les Zcnga Freres have a. Parisian dancing act. Valencia is a Spanish dare-devil on the flying trapeze, and Marie Lawton is a charming young artist with the harp and the voice. The box plan will open on Wednesday next.
