WORLD-FAMOUS VIOLINIST For Iris openin'; recitnl * ;it .His Majesty's Theatre <>n Saturday Heifetz, the world-renowned violinist, has chosen a programme calculated to please all tastes. It includes Charliers arrangement ol Tommaso \ itaii s ‘Chaconne,’ Mendelssohn's •Concerto in E Major ’ (Op. G-l), Tschaikowsky’s ‘Melodic,’ Razzini’s ‘Rondo des Latins,’ remarkable tor its extreme difficulty, which taxes every resource of the violinist’s iochnK|ue; Schuberts ‘ Avc Maria,’ Mozart’s ‘ Minuet,’ Chopin's ‘Nocturne in 1) Major,’ and Rios's ‘ Porpetuum Mobile.’ Jn Australia- Heifetz created quite a sensation by his wonderful playing ot Mendelssohn’s famous concerto, the ‘ Chaconne ’ of Tommaso \itali and Schubert’s beautiful ‘Avc Maria.’ It was described as a revelation, and in sonic of the movements in the sonata Heifetz’s interpretation was such as to stamp him as a great player courageous enough to prove his individuality. The ‘Avc Maria’ was acknowledged to bo one of the gems of tho evening. Apropos of .Heifetz’s visit, a wellknown journalist iu Sydney wrote:--- “ It is fascinating to watch the great artist in his absolutely effort less style. The most formidable, difficulties fail to disturb in the slightest his sell-posses-sion, his air of calm deachmcnt, his imperturbable gravity. Probably no oilier great, violinist in the world today is more completely master of technione.” 'The details of the programme wifi ho found in our advertising columns. Heifetz’s accompanist, Mr Isidor Achron, is heralded as a finished pianoforte player and a most, sympathetic and accomplished accompanist . Owing to Hie demand for scats at: Hu; first, concert Hie management (Messrs .1. and N. Tail) decided to give a second concert on Monday night, when another great programme of musical gems will he played by Heifetz. The box plans for both recitals arc open. Special concessions are being made to students.
