RUGBY, August 17. <Received August 18, at II a.m.) The legistrar-Geiierul’s return for the second quarter of the year shows that the deaths in England and Wales totalled 107,000. This is 61,000 Jess than in the preceding quarter, and 6.000 less than in the corresponding quarter of last year. The absence of serious epidemics is a. feature of the return, but 1,700 people died from influenza during the quarter. The deaths during the same period numbered 171,000, which is nearly 4.000 more than in preceding quarter, but 10,000 below the total of the second quarter of last year.
