THE NEW AWARD PROCESSION TO COURT, Tress Association —By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, August 10. The city witnessed an amazing scone at lunch hour, when 2.UUU engineers, in columns ol' lours, marched to the Industrial Arbitration Court, where twenty-one of their comrades had to appear to answer a summons issued under, the new award, which provides lor 'daily hiring. A stop work meeting of all engineers working under the Federal a want decided to absent themselves from work for the afternoon and march from the Trades Hall to the Arbitration Court. Addressing a mass meeting at the Trades Hall prior to the procession, the Federal secretary of the Amalgamated Engineering Union said that the union completely disapproved of any demonstration, but was overruled, and the men took mutters into their own hands. The court was guarded by police, but the demonstrators were very quiet and orderly. When the eases were called it was explained that each of the twenty-one men was called upon to show cause why a line of £IOO or imprisonment for three months should not be imposed for failure to obey the court order to return to work. The court adjourned till to-morrow to give the parties a, further opportunity to concur, with a view to a settlement of the dispute. EFFORTS AT SETTLEMENT. SYDNEY, August 17. (Received August 17, at 10 a.m.) Following the court proceedings in the engineering case, the parties to the dispute met to consider proposals for a settlement, hut without result. The negotiations will ho continued to-day, when Mr Justice Ucoby may participate in them.
