BLOO DHOUND HUNT
TO SECUKB ARREST OP BURGLARS. A bloodhound assisted in securing the, arrest of two men in the, grounds of Leonanlslec, near Horsham, Sussex, the home ot Lady Loder, mother of Sir Giles .Hoik Loder, Bart. At 3.45 a.m. Lady Loder heard a disturbance in her house, and coming pint of her bedroom saw a man on the landing. Lady Loder gave the alarm, set going (he estate fircbell, and telephoned to the police. Superintendent W. H. Beadier, of Horsham, with several members of the West Sussex police, hurried to the estate in motor cars and on motor cycles, and a double cordon was placed round the immediate neighborhood, all roads and lanes being patrolled. Soon afterwards the West Sussex police flying squad arrived, and Chief-constable AS. Williams despatched to Leonardslee in a fast motor car one of lus trained bloodhounds, Herald from Hambrook Grange, Emsworth, near Chichester.
When the dog reached Leonardslee if. at 01100 picked up a scent neat* the patiiry who flow, where there were signs of an attempted entrv. and took up the trail across the gardens" around the house, and for more than half a mile into the depth of densely-wooded grounds It passed a shepherd in charge o: a flock of sheep, and, making for a stretch of ground known as the Flying Ground, came upon two men, who were washing and preparing to move off. Both men were arrested. A travelling clock and a quantity of gold and silve jewellery, valued at about £l4, were found Entrance to the house was apparently made at the back of the building through a window on the second floor above a lowlying flat roof and the intruders apparently 'eft by the bathroom window. Several ooms in the house had hecu disturbed. The two men arrested, who gave the -amos of .Tames Alfred Kershaw and Harold Wilson* strangers in t.ho. district, were snli-scone-tlv charged at Horsham Police Court with burglary."
