DUNEDIN FIRE BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING At the monthly meeting of the Dunedin Eire Hoard yesterday afternoon, tho following were present:-—Messrs J. Wilson (in the chair), W. B- Taverner, J. L. Salmond, A. Burn, J. S. Hislop, and W. A. Scott. Tho Finance Committee reported that accounts amounting to £1,034 14s ltd had been passed for payment. Ju his monthly report the Superintendent (Mr A. G. Napier) stated that forty-six calls had been attended to. Eighteen were fires in or on property, fourteen chimney lircs, five bush or rubbish fires, seven malicious false alarms, and two justifiable false alarms. Of tbe maliciously given alarms, four were from automatic telephones and three from .street call points. It was recorded, with deep regret, that the brigade bad lost the services of a tried and efficient officer in Hie death of Senior Foreman Piper, who, after years of .service, was placed in charge of the Roslyn Fire Brigade, a position he held from the date of opening with a permanent staff to the date of his illness, with every credit to himself and satisfaction to his superior officers. _ The plant and equipment of tho brigade wore in good order and condition. One hundred and sixteen calls were attended bv tbe ambulance transnort wagons, covering tV5{) miles. The report was adopted. With reference to the death of Foreman Piper, a resolution of sympathy with tho relatives of tho deceased was passed, those present standing in silence.
